Iowa football injury update: RB Jaziun Patterson banged up vs. Rutgers

The Iowa running back room has dealt with a ton of injuries this season. And the Hawkeyes are working through one more right now.

Sophomore Kamari Moulton just returned from an injury after missing the last two games. Redshirt freshman Xavier Williams is missing the Rutgers game with an undisclosed injury. And freshman Brevin Doll has been banged up all season. And now junior Jaziun Patterson is dealing with an injury.

According to Fox sideline reporter Jen Hale, Patterson tweaked his ankle in the first half at Rutgers.

“Yeah guys, he dinged his right ankle in that first half, got it taped, tried to fight through it on the sideline, ended up limping into the locker room at halftime and got more tape. When he comes back out, you’ll see that tape goes almost all the way up to his knee now.

“I asked Coach about his status for his half, he said, ‘Look, he’s going to try to go. He doesn’t want to sit out. He knows we need him.’ He is here on the sideline holding his helmet, but he is favoring that right ankle still,” Hale said.

Patterson has his helmet on the sideline, so his night might not be over yet.

But it’s something to monitor in this game and going forward, as a once deep running back room is thinning out rapidly. The Hawkeyes will rely on Moulton, sophomore Terrell Washington Jr., and freshman Nathan McNeil to carry the load with Patterson, Williams and Doll banged up.
