Indianapolis high school football power rankings: Brownsburg, Center Grove, Carmel in Week 6

The Indy-area high school football power rankings going into Week 6 of the season:

Class 6A

1. Brownsburg (5-0): The Bulldogs asserted themselves early on both sides of the ball in a 42-14 win over Fishers in an impressive and balanced performance. Oscar Frye passed for 149 yards and three touchdowns to three different receivers and the Bulldogs ran for 211 yards, led by 102 and two TDs from Brady Lewis. Up next is a visit to Westfield. Previous: 1.

2. Center Grove (5-0): The Trojans went on the road and defeated Trotwood-Madison (Ohio) 31-20 as sophomore Ricky Lange ran for 161 yards and three TDs on 29 carries. Center Grove intercepted five passes in the win. The game at Lawrence Central this week could be interesting. The Bears are averaging 38.2 points per game and played Lawrence North and Warren Central close. Previous: 2.

3. Carmel (4-1): The Greyhounds were impressive in a 56-7 win over Columbus North. Anthony Coellner was 13-for-16 passing for 178 yards and three TDs, including two to Jacob Bellin (five catches for 105 yards). Carmel also ran for 274 yards. Up next: vs. North Central. Previous: 3.

4. Westfield (4-1): The Shamrocks won their third consecutive game with a 21-17 victory over Hamilton Southeastern as Deacon King ran for 148 yards and a TD on 28 carries. Westfield’s offense put up 491 yards of total offense. A big test upcoming with Brownsburg visiting. Previous: 4.

5. Fishers (3-2): The Tigers struggled in all facets in a 42-14 loss at Brownsburg. Probably most surprising was the struggle of the offense, which accounted for just seven first downs. Up next is Avon, another difficult test. Previous: 5.

6. Lawrence North (4-1): The Wildcats cruised to a 77-0 win over Tech. Izayveon Moore scored three touchdowns on his three carries and accounted for 102 yards. A tougher stretch begins this week with Ben Davis at home. Previous: 6.

7. Warren Central (4-1): Jack Quillen had a big game with 269 passing yards and three TDs in a 38-23 win over Ben Davis after the Warriors fell behind 14-0. Keyon Thomas ran for 87 yards on 22 carries and caught three passes for 58 yards. Up next: vs. Pike. Previous: 9.

8. Hamilton Southeastern (3-2): The Royals dropped a 21-17 decision against Westfield. Carter Reed led the offense with 116 yards and one TD on 24 carries and Matthew Ruiz had 11 tackles, three sacks and one fumble recovery to lead the defense. Up next: at Zionsville. Previous: 7.

9. Avon (3-2): The Orioles got it rolling against Franklin Central after a slow start and cruised to a 35-10 victory. Shawn Curry had a big game with seven catches for 145 yards and a TD and Andre Warfield ran for four TDs. Up next: at Fishers. Previous: 8.

Decatur Central (3-2): The Hawks jumped all over Mooresville in a 73-27 victory. Kasmir Hicks had 139 yards of all-purpose yards (97 rushing, 42 receiving) and intercepted a pass. Bo Polston also returned from his shoulder injury. Interesting game this week against visiting Plainfield. Previous: 10.

Class 5A

1. New Palestine (5-0): The Dragons steamrolled Pendleton Heights 42-6 for a 19th consecutive win. Jacob Davis was 13-for-15 passing for 221 yards and two TDs and ran for 83 yards and one TD on 12 carries. Up next: at Greenfield-Central. Previous: 1

2. Cathedral (3-2): The Irish had no trouble with Southport, scoring 37 points in the first quarter on the way to a 54-0 win. Cathedral rolled up 428 yards of total offense on just 34 plays. Up next: Trotwood (Ohio) at UIndy. Previous: 2.

3. Plainfield (5-0): Luke Starnes ran for 208 yards and two TDs on 16 carries and Bryce Sebanc was 11-for-15 passing for 205 yards and four TDs in Plainfield’s 49-14 win over Greenwood. The Quakers have a massive Mid-State Conference game this week at Decatur Central. Previous: 3.

Class 4A

1. Bishop Chatard (4-1): Danny Adams ran for 240 yards and four TDs to lead Chatard to a 37-6 win over Brebeuf Jesuit. Up next: at Guerin Catholic. Previous: 1.

2. Roncalli (3-2): Zach Dozier starred in Roncalli’s 49-7 win over Guerin Catholic with a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and 118 rushing yards and three TDs. Up next is a game against Brebeuf Jesuit that hopefully is not played in hurricane conditions (like last year’s was). Previous: 2.

3, Pendleton Heights (4-1): The Arabians look to recover after a 42-6 loss to New Palestine. Pendleton Heights allowed 499 yards of total offense in the loss. Up next: at Mt. Vernon. Previous: 3.

Class 3A

  1. Cascade (5-0): The Cadets cruised to a 77-0 win over Frankfort, rolling up 363 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns. Frankfort finished with just 23 yards. Up next: vs. Crawfordsville. Previous: 1.
  2. Tri-West (4-1): Wanson Hall ran for 141 yards and a touchdown and Abe Haste led the defense with 17 tackles in a 35-27 win over rival Danville. A big Hoosier Legends Conference game is on deck against Indian Creek. Previous: 2.
  3. Indian Creek (4-1): The Braves let a 12-point lead slip away in the final three minutes a 29-26 loss to Lapel. There is no time to dwell on it, though, with a trip to Tri-West this week. The Braves can keep pace with Triton Central atop the Hoosier Legends Conference with a win here. Previous: 3.

Class 2A/A

  1. Lapel (5-0): The Bulldogs rallied for an improbable 29-26 win over Indian Creek, getting two touchdown passes from Devin Craig in the final minutes with the help of an onside kick. Craig was 20-for-33 passing for 182 yards and two TDs and ran for 102 yards and one TD on 12 carries. Up next: at Rushville. Previous: 1.
  2. Triton Central (5-0): The Tigers trailed at halftime before rallying in the second half for a 21-10 win over Speedway. Matthew Wilkins passed for 174 yards and three TDs. Triton Central hosts Lebanon this week. Previous: 2.
  3. Lutheran (4-1): The Saints had two interceptions and held Cardinal Ritter to 120 yards of total offense in a 42-6 victory. Up next: at Covenant Christian. Previous: 3.
