‘I’m In The League!’ Can Cowboys’ Traeshon Holden Surprise His Way To Roster Spot? originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

FRISCO – Dallas Cowboys undrafted receiver Traeshon Holden told us he was “coming for heads” at the beginning of the offseason, and the former Oregon star is staying true to that promise.

Stacking good days on top of good days in Oxnard, the preseason opening 31-21 loss at the Los Angeles Rams was our first chance to see Holden react to an existence with real NFL bullets flying.

He didn’t see the field until the fourth quarter – which could be taken as an arrow-down sign about his prospects here – but when Holden got his chance, he made the most of it. Two catches for 42 yards, one of which was a 35-yard deep ball, helped set the offense up to score.

As a result, Holden is still pinching himself at what he was able to do at SoFi Stadium.

“It felt great. I’m still watching the catch to this day,” Holden said via dallascowboys.com. “It’s just like ‘Dang bro, I’m in the league.’ I’ve dreamed of this since I was a little kid, so it’s like, keep going for now.”

To be precise, he’s not exactly “in the league” just yet. But we get his drift. And we understand his elation.

Now, can he build on all of that to forge for himself a roster spot?

The receiver roster battle that Holden finds himself in is one that will give head coach Brian Schottenheimer and staff a challenge because there are two or four players who could wronged, in a sense, by not making the final 53-man roster.

CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and KaVontae Turpin are locked in. There might be two or maybe three slots behind them. That’s it. It’s tight.

Schotty promised after the Rams game that the 6-2, 205-pound Holden would be moving up the depth chart … which translates to mean he’ll get even more playing time this Saturday in Preseason Game 2 against the Ravens here at AT&T Stadium.

Will Holden be one of the unlucky players to miss out? The answer to that question largely about these next two preseason games, as he has to continue his good form, plus star in practice, to force the coaching staff to pick him.

And if that happens? Dang, bro … Holden really will be “in the league.”
