Do you want to help out Fang Yao and He Youzai in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers? Although not too obvious at first glance, the fates of these characters are intertwined. Soon, you’ll realize that this whole chain of events actually leads to a massive arc that spans the entire campaign. Our guide has you covered, but be forewarned that there are major spoilers ahead.
How to complete the He Youzai and Fang Yao quests in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
He Youzai’s and Fang Yao’s quests, at the start, tend to happen independently of each other. Much later, though, you’ll learn of a certain connection between the two. It’s imperative that you tackle each step in the correct order. Otherwise, you might encounter issues and the arc could end prematurely.
Note: The Wuchang: Fallen Feathers He Youzai and Fang Yao quests reward you with all sorts of goodies, including unique weapons, armors, and even a secret ending.
He Youzai: Worship’s Rise location #1 and the Lost Package item
The Wuchang: Fallen Feathers He Youzai quest begins in Worship’s Rise – Reverent Temple. As soon as you exit the area, you’ll see He Youzai to your left. He’ll give you the Bamboo Lantern item and 1x Cornucopia Elixir.
Continue onward until you defeat the Tang Palace Maid sub-boss in Buddha Cliffs. Upon exiting the cave, you should see a glowing item on the ground (as shown in the image above). This is the Lost Package, and you need to hold on to it for a while.
He Youzai: Worship’s Rise location #2
The next time you meet He Youzai is after exiting the underground caverns–i.e. Worship’s Rise – Bandit Cave–where you fought the Great Centipede boss. He’s waiting for you on a mountain pass that leads to the Doomwillow Beach shrine (which is actually a Mimic monster).
In any case, hand over the Lost Package to He Youzai to receive the following:
1x Cornucopia ElixitRecords of the Southern ArchipelagoPirate armor set
He Youzai: Worship’s Rise location #3
Progress further until you defeat Commander Honglan in Tang Palace. When you wake up in Reverent Temple, check the ground floor to find He Youzai. He’ll give you the following:
1x Cured Jerky1x Everblend Brew
Fang Yao – The Shu Silk Scarf item
To start the Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Fang Yao quest arc, you must acquire the Shu Silk Scarf quest item. This is found in Cloudspire – Hillswatch.
From the shrine area, go up the sloping path and pass by the ruined houses. To your left, you should see a ravine with a ladder that leads back to the shrine. There’s also a glowing landmark here, a Faces of the Past object. Use the “Examine” emote to obtain the Shu Silk Scarf.
He Youzai: Cloudspire location #1
As you explore the region of Cloudspire, you’ll eventually face a boss named Ming General – Liu Cheng’en. Beating him lets you check out the rest of the Snowpeak Pass area. Follow the looping path through the garrison and you’ll stumble upon a room with dozens of pinwheels. Inside, you’ll find He Youzai who gives you 1x Cornucopia Elixir.
Fang Yao: Cloudspire location #1
Continue past where you encountered He Youzai and you’ll arrive in Cloudspire City. As you walk along the city streets, you’ll see a monster daring someone to come out of their house. Take out this creature and interact with the door.
Hand over the Silk Scarf to Fang Yao. She’ll then give you 3x Sapphire Lotus Seed. This action lets you begin her quest proper.
Fang Yao: Cloudspire location #2 and the Bloodied Paper item
The next part of the Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Fang Yao quest takes you to the Treasure Trove/Shaft Entrance:
After beating Mistress of the Night – Huang Yan, check the area at the back of the elevator. There, you’ll find the Bloodied Paper quest item.Ride the elevator to the lower level. You’ll see Fang Yao in person right next to the Shaft Entrance shrine.Give her the Bloodied Paper. Then, when she asks a question, say that you’ll “agree to help.”
He Youzai: Cloudspire location #2, the Research Journal Scrap 1, and the Mad Doctor’s Research Notes
Now, it’s time for the Wuchang: Fallen Feathers He Youzai portion of the arc:
After beating Mistress of the Night – Huang Yan, you’ll notice that she dropped an item called Research Journal – Scrap 1.Then, well past the Elevator Shaft shrine, you’ll explore a creepy area filled with macabre experiments. You’ll stumble upon a chamber with a gore-filled altar. Next to it is the Mad Doctor’s Research Notes item.Continue onward until you’re back at the central area. Just before the Bride’s Boudoir shrine, you’ll see He Youzai waiting for you. You can’t miss him as he’s standing next to the bridge.Give him both the Research Journal – Scrap 1 and the Mad Doctor’s Research Notes. He’ll reward you with 1x Cured Jerky.
Fang Yao: Cloudspire location #3 and the Fang Yao armor pieces
Head to the depths of the shaft and face the main boss of the Cloudspire region: Fang Ling. Once Fang Ling has been dealt with, rest at the Wedding Hall shrine. This will cause Fang Yao to appear in front of the altar. Talk to her and exhaust all dialogue options. You should receive two armor pieces: Fang Yao’s Hairband and Fang Yao’s Light Gown.
He Youzai and Fang Yao: Mt. Zhenwu location #1
It looks like both He Youzai and Fang Yao have met each other. You’ll encounter them after going through Mt. Zhenwu – Battlefield Pass. You’ll see them on a campsite overlooking the Refugee Camp hub. You’ll find the following items in this area:
1x Cornucopia Elixir – Given by He Youzai.3x Soft Rush Flowers – Given by Fang Yao.1x Health Pill – Found on the ground.
He Youzai: Mt. Zhenwu location #2 and the Bai Kru boss fight
This next portion of the Wuchang: Fallen Feathers He Youzai quest requires you to head to Bai Mansion. Here’s the gist:
After defeating Sovereign Zhang Xianzhong in Zhenwu Altar, head down the sloping path until you see a cave. There’s an NPC that warns you about proceeding further. Do not accept this NPC’s proposal since this is the point of no return. Instead, just go through the cave normally.You’ll eventually reach an area called Ferry Overlook, where you’ll find other NPCs that you’ve helped. You’ll see the Boatman, as well as a small boat, at the right-hand side of the pier. Sail on the vessel to arrive in Bai Mansion.Talk to He Youzai in front of the Bai Mansion shrine to receive 1x Cornucopia Elixir.If you’ve done everything correctly, you should be able to summon him for the Bai Kru boss fight at the end of the cavern.Bai Kru drops Research Journal – Scrap 2. Bring this item to He Youzai to receive 1x Cured Jerky.
