How Alabama commits performed during opening weekend of high school football season

This past Thursday and Friday night, the 2025 high school football season officially began in the state of Alabama, which meant that multiple current Alabama Crimson Tide in-state commits were in action for the first time this fall.

As a result, those names joined other current Alabama commits who have begun their 2025 seasons in states that include Georgia and others, meaning that almost all prospects in the Crimson Tide’s class have officially taken the field for the first time this fall.

Taking a look back at this past week’s action in particular, who were some of the top performing Alabama commits in recent days?

With some commits having yet to begin their seasons, let’s take a look at a few of Alabama’s commitments who were on the field from this past week of high school football.

Cederian Morgan, Wide Receiver, Benjamin Russell (Alabama)

Morgan had likely one of the more noteworthy plays of Alabama high school football’s opening weekend, hauling in a short pass which the Crimson Tide commit turned into an 80+ yard touchdown. Morgan’s team, Benjamin Russell, fell on the road at Opelika, 25-20.

Brian Williams, Wide Receiver, The First Academy (Florida)

Williams hauled in two receiving touchdowns during The First Academy’s season-opening 24-17 home loss to Milton High School out of Georgia. The two scores went for eight and 80 yards, respectively.

Xavier Griffin, Linebacker and Jamarion Matthews, Edge Rusher, Gainesville (Georgia)

Griffin and Matthews have been a major factor behind the success of Georgia’s Gainesville High School, and that continued this past week with a dominant 49-7 home win over Alabama’s Moody. The Gainesville defense enters Week 3 undefeated, and have allowed only 14 combined points through two games.

Owen Cabell, Wide Receiver, Christ Presbyterian Academy (Tennessee)

Cabell made the most of his two catches in Christ Presbyterian Academy of Tennessee’s 28-14 loss to Oakland. The wide receiver had two receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns.
