Houma-Thibodaux Area Girls High School Athlete of the Year: Meet the 2025 Finalists

We’re through three rounds and there’s only one round of voting left in the 2025 Houma-Thibodaux Girls Athlete of the Year tournament.

After more than 30 candidates — all of them former Thibodaux Regional Health System Athlete of the Week winners from the 2024-25 high school sports season — were entered into the first round, these four finalists will compete in the championship round. Voting will begin later this week.

Candidates listed in alphabetical order

Layla Brown

School: TerrebonneSport: Track and FieldEvent: 100-meter hurdlesClass (in 2024-25 school year): JuniorAthlete of the Week Win: April 1

Brown won her Athlete of the Week Award after winning the 100-meter hurdles at the Vandebilt Catholic Terrier Relays by nearly two seconds. She finished first in each of the first three rounds and has received the most votes of any athlete, boy or girl, in the tournament.

Aubrey Gautreaux

School: South TerrebonneSport: SoftballPosition: Shortstop/Third Base/Center FieldClass (in 2024-25 school year): JuniorAthlete of the Week Win: April 22

Gautreaux won her award after leading STHS to a run-rule LHSAA playoff win in Division II non-select. She finished fifth in Round 1 and Round 2 before finishing second in the semifinals.

Lexi Matherne

School: Vandebilt CatholicSport: SoftballPosition: UtilityClass (in 2024-25 school year): SophomoreAthlete of the Week Win: May 6

Matherne won her Athlete of the Week Award after being named MVP of the Division II select state softball tournament for state-champion VCHS. She finished sixth in Round 1, second in Round 2, and third in the semifinals.

Elizabeth Rodrigue

School: E.D. WhiteSport: Track and FieldEvent: 800-meter and 1600-meterClass (in 2024-25 school year): SeniorAthlete of the Week Win: May 13

Rodrigue won the final regular-season Athlete of the Week Award after finishing in the top-5 in two events at the Class 4A state championship, including a podium finish in the 800-meter race. She finished second in Round 1, third in Round 2, and fourth in the semifinals.
