Highlights: Chillicothe claims GCVC championship, Cutright named Player of the Year

Mercer Cutright has been named Player of the Year as the Chillicothe Cavaliers boys volleyball team claimed the GCVC championship on May 5.

In addition to Cutright, Jace Copley and JB Maravilla were named to the All-Academic Team.

Joining Cutright with first team honors are Isaac Herlihy and Carter Dunfee, while David Rourke and Jace Copley were named to the second team. Jeremyah Teurman and Sunny Garcia were honorable mention.

Boys volleyball

Chillicothe 2, St. Charles 0: The Cavaliers won 25-15, 25-18.

Waverly 10,Minford 0: Caeleb Cox went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Mason Sparks went 1-for-3 with one run. Wil Armstrong went 1-for-2 with a run. Hunter Hauch went 1-for-1 with three runs and one RBI.

Monday

Huntington 9,Piketon 6: Brayden Elliott went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Junior McDonald went 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Landon Lowry went 2-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base. Carson Henneberger went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Alex Long, Frankie Hirsch and Kevin Barr all scored runs. For Piketon, Mason Roberts went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Kendon Day was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Grayson Roberts went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Unioto 3, Westfall 2: Callaway Ratliff had a walk-off RBI single for the win on a night he went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Jaxon Zickafoose went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs and two stolen bases. KP Perkins was the winning pitcher, going two innings, giving up one hit, no runs, no walks and striking out two. He also went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and two stolen bases. For Westfall, Rick Hanley went 1-for-3 with a double and a run. AJ Pluta went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Brenden Tuttle went 1-for-2 with a run.

Adena 5, Southeastern 1: Colton Garrison went six innings, giving up one run (no earned runs), two walks and two strikeouts. He went 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base. Marcus Jackson went 1-for-3 with a double, a run, an RBI and a stolen base. Hudson Bush went 1-for-3 with a run and two stolen bases. Christian Heath and Aiden Toparcean both scored a run. Brayden Burns went 2-for-3 with a run.

Tuesday

Adena 12, Zane Trace 4: Allie Bossert had a complete game where she gave up five hits, two earned runs, and struck out five for the win. She was also 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs, a run, a walk and a stolen base. Adriana Guarnieri went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBIs, two runs and three stolen bases. Marly Halcomb was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and two stolen bases. Lexi Pettit went 2-for-4 with four RBId and a walk. Alexis Blankenship was 2-for-4 with two runs. For Zane Trace, Haylynn Boggess-Pierce went 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk. Brynn Wipert went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Maddison Will went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Grace Lyon went 0-for-2 with a run.

Monday

Unioto 9, Westfall 4: The Shermans were trailing 3-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth when they scored two in the fifth and five in the sixth. Macie Cox had four RBIs on a 3-for-4 night. Maddie Tuttle went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI. Haylee Hull went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Mackenzie Welch went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. For Westfall, Joni Snyder went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base. Adrina Kicks went 1-for-2 with a run.

Adena 13, Southeastern 1: Addy Cottrill had a complete game, going five innings and giving up one earned run, walking two and had one strikeout. Allie Bossert went 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs. Marly Halcomb went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, three runs and a stolen base. Adriana Guarnieri went 2-for-4, two triples, two RBIs and two runs. Jo Jett went 1-for-3 with a double, RBI, a run and stolen base. Adelynn Nelson was 1-for-3, with two runs and a walk. Alexis Blankenship went 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Piketon 12, Huntington 1: Renee Hill scored three runs on a 2-for-2 night with a stolen base. Reese Shanks went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and five RBIs. Jaylin Forbes went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Lacrissa Heath went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Laken Pederson went 0-for-2 with two runs and one walk. For Huntington, Allie Baker went 1-for-2 with a homer and an RBI.
