Former Oklahoma Sooners blue-chip RB transfers to SEC school

Former Oklahoma Sooners running back Seth McGowan is heading to the SEC via the NCAA spring transfer portal. McGowan is signing with the Kentucky Wildcats and head coach Mark Stoops, according to Nick Roush, who covers the team for On3 Sports.

McGowan played for OU as a true freshman in 2020 and flashed potential with four total touchdowns and over 500 all-purpose yards in a crowded backfield. He was a former four-star prospect that had fans excited for what he could do with more of an opportunity in 2021 and beyond.

But that all changed in March of 2021, when he was booted from the team after being charged with robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, among other charges.

McGowan didn’t play in 2021 or 2022, but found his way to Butler Community College in Kansas in 2023, scoring four touchdowns that season. He then transferred to New Mexico State last season, and had a breakout year in Conference USA. He rushed for 823 yards and three touchdowns and also caught 23 passes for 277 yards and three scores. McGowan led the Aggies in rushing last season.

Now, the former Sooner has found a new home in the spring portal window. He’s hoping to help jumpstart the Kentucky running game, as the Wildcats hope to compete in a very tough SEC.

Kentucky has its guy.
