Former Iowa women's basketball player Ava Jones is in remission

Former Iowa women’s basketball forward Ava Jones shared news on Thursday that every Hawkeye fan will be overjoyed to learn.

Jones revealed on social media that she is in remission.

“After 900 days of living with cancer, I am in remission as of yesterday! Thankful for the people who’ve stuck by my side through the challenges of the last three years. Cheers to a new (and hopefully calmer) chapter in life,” Jones wrote in her social media announcement.

Jones revealed in late July that she had completed her final round of chemotherapy. Jones had announced on Instagram on Feb. 8 that she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“Thank you guys all for continuing to save my life every day,” Jones said in her July announcement. “It’s been a long six months, but I’ve had you guys to help me get through it, so it went by a lot better than for other people… Hopefully, I won’t have to do any more chemo, so we’ll find out September 3 if I’m in remission or not.”

Jones signed with Iowa in its 2023 class. But, Jones was forced to medically retire from basketball in June of 2024 as the result of injuries sustained in a car accident.

“We wish Ava the best on the road to recovery and fully support the decision she made to step away from the game,” Jensen said. “She worked tirelessly to get to this point, but she made the best decision for herself and her well-being.”

The news that Jones is in remission warms the heart and will bring a smile to every Hawkeye fan. Iowa fans wish Jones the very best in all of her future life endeavors.
