Former Chiefs DB Tyrann Mathieu will join the YouTube broadcast for Week 1 vs. Chargers

The Kansas City Chiefs will open the 2025 regular season in São Paulo, Brazil, against their AFC West division rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers. The matchup will be the first live YouTube game on Friday, September 5th, featuring a recently retired Pro Bowler in the studio.

Tyrann Mathieu will appear on the YouTube broadcast shortly after announcing his retirement from the NFL after 12 seasons. The ‘Honey Badger’ was an impactful part of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIV-winning team in 2019. He began his career in 2013 with the Arizona Cardinals before joining Kansas City and playing his last few seasons for the New Orleans Saints.

The former Chiefs star will be joined as an analyst by retired NFL players Cam Newton, Brandon Marshall, and Derek Carr, while Kay Adams will serve as the studio host.

“We are excited to expand our relationship with YouTube to bring this year’s Brazil game to a worldwide audience,” said Hans Schroeder, NFL executive vice president of media distribution, in a statement. “YouTube and YouTube TV have been incredible partners of the NFL for several years and boast an immense global reach, and we look forward to Week 1 in São Paulo.”

Mathieu will likely bring the same excitement to the studio as he displays on the football field as he begins his new career.
