Fans Furious After 'Pump-Fake' Joe Ryan-Red Sox Trade

Fans Furious After ‘Pump-Fake’ Joe Ryan-Red Sox Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

As the 2025 MLB Trade Deadline comes to a close, X (formerly Twitter) has been ablaze with rumors on any and every name, and one of those names was Twins starter Joe Ryan.

Ryan was far from a certainty to be traded, and more like a lofty possibility if that. However, on X, a post from the official MLB on FOX account seemed to break the news that Ryan was traded to the Boston Red Sox.

Moments later, the post was deleted, but not quick enough for fans to not notice.

On Jomboy Media’s Talkin’ Baseball livestream, former Twins infielder Trevor Plouffe was up in arms about the trade, thinking the Twins pulled the trigger on a trade for arguably their best arm, before the news of the deleted post was spread.

One user wrote: “Generational fumble from FOX Sports incorrectly reporting Joe Ryan to the Red Sox. Embarrassing.”

Another user wrote: “Where were you when JoeRyan was a Red Sox for 30 seconds???”

Following their blockbuster trade of Rafael Devers in June, the Sox have been fairly quiet, sending 2020 third-round draft pick and top prospect Blaze Jordan for Cardinals lefty Steven Matz on Wednesday.
