In the battle to decide who will be the backup to quarterback Jared Goff, the Lions gave the early start to Kyle Allen in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio against the Los Angeles Chargers while Hendon Hooker came on late in the third quarter.
Allen’s start Thursday was a pretty forgettable, including a mistake that nearly led to a pick-six in the first quarter — the Chargers would go on to score just two plays later. Overall, Allen went 9-of-14 for 91 yards and two interceptions. Needless to say, there were some opinions on Allen throughout social media about his performance in Canton, both positive and negative.
The Lions OL (L-R Skipper, Muti, Eguakun, Awosika, J. Jones) has been largely awful through the first two drives.
The INT actually featured the best blocking all series. Poor choice by Kyle Allen.— Jeff Risdon (@JeffRisdon) August 1, 2025
I know this is kind of a “aside from that how was the play Mrs. Lincoln” piece of commentary but Kyle Allen has looked pretty good since the two interceptions

So “it’s just preseason” for Trey Lance, but this is serious business, and everyone should dog on Kyle Allen and Hendon Hooker, who are playing poorly in the same game. Does this matter or not?

I could name a handful of spring league football QBs (UFL, CFL) who have had better performances than what Kyle Allen is having in the NFL Hall of Fame Game. #UFL

It was that kind of night for Allen and the Lions.
