The Paper has landed on the front porch. All ten episodes of Peacock’s new comedy series are ready for you to binge.
Below, the trailer, release date, cast, and more headlines about the paper business.
Are we getting a second season?
Peacock resubscribed for another season of The Paper, just one day before it premiered on the streaming service. There’s no word yet on when production will start or when we can expect the second season to air. But hopefully, the show’s success can get Peacock to pick up more than just ten episodes.
Can we have an intro before diving into a binge?
The sitcom follows the attempts to revive a Toledo newspaper called The Truth Teller, which exists among Dunder-Mifflin’s paper-themed parent company. Like The Office and so many shows after it, from Modern Family to Abbott Elementary, the series is filmed mockumentary style. One thing it takes from its predecessor that shows like Parks and Recreation did not, however, is that the documentary crew is part of the narrative — the series specifically follows the same documentary crew as the original show, now at The Truth Teller.
How is it connected to The Office?
Outside the documentary crew, the only cast member confirmed to return is Oscar Nuñez as “Oscar.” He’s not happy to see crew again. Given his new position working at The Truth Teller, it seems altogether likely that Oscar did not win the state Senate position he was running for at the end of The Office. Of any other characters from the original show, Dwight (Rainn Wilson) and Angela (Angela Kinsey) have a window to return, as they made Oscar their child’s godfather in season nine.
Behind the camera, the show was created by The Office (U.S.) creator Greg Daniels, but he’s joined this time around by Nathan for You alum Michael Koman.
Who is on staff?
The series is led by Europeans Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus), who will be hilariously out of place in “Toledo.” Impacciatore compared her character Esmeralda to Tweety Bird, “doing nasty things but just to survive.” Which is all the more reason to see what Esmeralda is all about. They are joined in the main cast by The Moodys star Chelsea Frei, American Vandal’s Melvin Gregg, BAFTA winner for Brain in Gear Gbemisola Ikumelo, special Tony recipient for Just for Us Alex Edelman, Never Have I Ever star Ramona Young, and Alan Partridge sidekick Tim Key.
Any special guests?
Definitely. Just a few of the guest stars for the first season include Eric Rahill, Tracy Letts, Molly Ephraim, Mo Welch, Allan Havey, Duane Shepard Sr., Nate Jackson, and Nancy Lenehan.
How to watch The Paper
All ten episodes are streaming right now on Peacock. Hopefully, a back-to-school-time binge inspires teenagers to sign up for their school newspaper.
