North Carolina is a prestigious school with much to be proud of in the heart of the state. Academics are something to marvel at, but nothing is more beloved than Tar Heel basketball. Now the headlines are shifting to the football field. Bill Belichick’s arrival in Chapel Hill last December came with the idea that he was going to change the culture of the football team. Well, he’s making headlines, just not for the right reasons.
UNC won’t be on the newest series of Hard Knocks featuring colleges. Despite having the best coach in NFL history, the docuseries was meant to be the hit it needs to get off the ground. However, Belichick’s 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson wanted too much creative control, forcing NFL Films to pull the plug. A move that cost the school $200k in NIL funds.
During an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Belichick asked how he and Hudson met. She immediately cut off the interview by stating “we’re not talking about this.” The awkward moment left many stunned including the interviewer, Tony Dokoupil. It’s odd enough to see the 73-year-old coach with a woman nearly a half-century younger. It’s even worse when she is openly disrupting an interview she wasn’t a part of.
A former sports columnist, Peter King, has shared a piece of advice for Belichick following the legendary coach’s controversial interview. He urged Belichick to “get a hold of himself” while describing the fallout from the moment as “embarrassing.”
Belichick has been dating Hudson for nearly two years. They have been seen at various events and even on social media with a picture of them enjoying a day at the beach. This is outside of the wheelhouse for Belichick, as he is one who tends to avoid all things media and keep everything private. During his year away from football, Belichick has made himself more personable and appearing on various sports networks to share his takes on all things football. He even joined the Peyton and Eli show cast on ESPN.

Belichick defended his woman, explaining that his reason for doing the interview was to promote his new book, ‘The Art of Winning —- Lessons from My Life in Football’, when irrelevant questions were being asked. Belichick responded via email and detailed there was a misconception of how things went down. He felt Hudson had every right to interject, feeling that she was protecting him.

The situation certainly made people take notice. There has been growing concern surrounding the two as some would say this relationship may not be what is seen in the public eye. It seems like a dark cloud is slowly looming over Chapel Hill.
This relationship is odd and will certainly be something to look out for during the college football season. With Hard Knocks off the table, maybe UNC can find another show to feature all the dramatic moments. We only care to know about the Tar Heels life, right? All eyes will be on the ACC juggernaut as the plot continues to thicken.
