Ex-NFL coach has been around Broncos, but he's not officially on staff

Adam Gase hasn’t worked in the NFL since 2020, but he’s been around a team this offseason.

Gase has been at Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit, talking with Denver’s quarterbacks and QBs coach Davis Webb, according to Brandon Krisztal of Guerilla Sports. Although he’s been around the team, Gase does not have an official role on coach Sean Payton’s staff.

“He’s come out,” Payton said after Saturday’s practice. “His father-in-law is Joe Vitt, and so it’s good to see him out here. I know he worked here for quite some time. He’s not helping in any official capacity or anything like that, but he’s welcome to come out and he’s always been a good resource, someone that has seen a lot of football.”

Vitt worked under Payton with the New Orleans Saints from 2006-2016, and he overlapped with Gase, his son-in-law, with the New York Jets from 2019-2020. Payton hired Vitt as a senior defensive assistant with the Broncos in 2023.

Gase worked his way up from wide receivers coach (2009-2010) to quarterbacks coach (2011-2012) to offensive coordinator (2013-2014) during his time in Denver. He then had a stint as OC with the Chicago Bears (2015) before going 23-25 as a head coach with the Miami Dolphins (2016-2018). After getting a recommendation from Peyton Manning, Gase was hired by the Jets in 2019. He went 9-23 in two seasons in New York.
