Escientia tragedy: Chiru wanted to take his pregnant wife to hospital on Thursday

Visakhapatnam:�Twentyfive-year-old Javvadi Chiranjeevi wanted to take his pregnant wife to hospital on Thursday but lay in King George Hospital mortuary. Chiranjeevi is one of the 17 workers who died in the reactor blast incident at Escintia Pharma Ltd located at Atchutapuram in Anakapalli mandal on Wednesday afternoon.

“I wanted him to take me to the hospital on Wednesday itself as I was not feeling well. But he insisted on working and take me on Thursday which was his weekly off. He also wanted to discuss the name to be given to the new born baby. But he never came back,’’ said 20 year old Neela Devi who is in her sixth month of pregnancy.

Neela Devi was continuously sobbing while her mother-in-law and other relatives were trying to console her.

“I fought against my parents to marry Chiranjeevi and borrowed money to perform the marriage. We were happy and he was calling me every day after his shift was over. But yesterday there was no call,’’ she said.

The 25-year-old Chiranjeevi, a native of Darlapudi village of S Rayavaram mandal in Anakapalle district, was an ITI certificate holder and had worked as fitter in the Laurus Labs Limited located in Parawada of Anakapalle district, where his salary was Rs16,000. He joined Escientia pharma company around a year ago for a hiked salary of Rs18,000.

“I lost my brother because of the negligence of the management of Escientia pharma. I want my brother back, will the company bring him back,’’ asked Chiranjeevi’s elder brother J Appala Konda.

He said they got to know of the blast incident while watching the news channels on TV on Wednesday evening. The management of the company did not inform them about the incident and death of Chiranjeevi, he said.
