It was a night to remember for Arsenal and an unforgettable one for 15-year-old Max Dowman, who became the youngest player ever to appear in the Champions League during the Gunners’ 3-0 victory over Slavia Prague.
The academy winger replaced Leandro Trossard late in the second half, with Arsenal already in complete control after goals from Bukayo Saka and a brace from Mikel Merino that sealed another assured European win.
Dowman’s brief but historic cameo made him the youngest player in Champions League history, surpassing the previous record held by Youssoufa Moukoko of Borussia Dortmund.
Another record could soon be within Max Dowman’s reach. Having already become the youngest player in Champions League history and the second youngest ever to feature in the Premier League, the 15-year-old could now surpass Lamine Yamal’s mark as the youngest Champions League starter.
Yamal was 16 years and 83 days old when he started for Barcelona against Porto in 2023 – a record Dowman could eclipse if handed a start before this season’s quarter-finals.
