A key District 5A-6 game takes place Thursday night in Denton, Texas.

Flower Mound Marcus takes on Denton Guyer, which is currently leading the conference along with Lewisville.

Guyer is 3-0 in district play on the heels of knocking off Coppell and Lewisville Hebron. The Wildcats are 4-2 overall, with their only two losses coming to Aledo and to defending UIL 6A Division I champion North Crowley.

Marcus enters Thursday’s game at 3-2 overall and 1-2 in district play, though the Marauders are coming off a win last week against Denton Braswell.

FOURTH QUARTER

TOUCHDOWN GUYER. All Wildcats in the second half and they’re putting this thing on ice as Aiden Martens goes in from 3 yards out. (Guyer, 45-21 | 7:35, 4th) 

TOUCHDOWN GUYER. Kaedyn Cobbs with the hat trick, scoring from 36 yards out. Cobbs now has 244 rushing yards and 3 TDs. (Guyer, 38-21 | 11:33, 4th) 

– Fourth-quarter action is now under way. 

THIRD QUARTER

– A huge sack from Guyer’s Jaylen Lawson on third down, and Marcus will be punting to start the final quarter. 

SCOOP AND SCORE TOUCHDOWN DENTON GUYER. Wildcats regain a 10-point lead as Caleb Fowler, an Army commit, recovers a fumble and takes it in untouched 35 yards for the score. (Guyer, 31-21 | 1:12, 3rd) 

– A developing situation in Denton, as Marcus QB Colton Nussmeier leaves the game with an injury and has not returned. 

– Guyer gets the ball back in Marcus territory and advances inside the 30 before stalling. Wildcats try a 45-yard field goal attempt but it’s no good and Marcus holds again with more than two minutes to go in the third. 

– Guyer goes for it inside the Marcus 40 on fourth down but is stopped inches short of the sticks and Marcus takes over past the midway point of the quarter. 

– Guyer reaches inside the Marcus 40 before the drive stalls. Wildcats punt it away, and it goes into the end zone. 

– Guyer gets the ball to start the second half. 

HALFTIME

– For Guyer in the first half, Kaedyn Cobbs had 13 carries for 145 yards and 2 TDs; QB Zephyr Kreye: 5-of-8, 83 yards, 1 TD. Marcus QB Colton Nussmeier was 10-of-15 for 189 yards and a TD. 

– Guyer gets past midfield in the final seconds of the half and tries a Hail Mary into the end zone, but it is picked off. Wildcats go into the locker room with a three-point advantage.

SECOND QUARTER

– Marcus gets past midfield before the drive bogs down and will punt. But there’s a high snap over the punter’s head; however, he is able to track it down and kick it away. Guyer takes over on its side of the field with less than 20 seconds remaining. 

– Guyer is forced to punt it away and Marcus takes over with about a minute to go in the half. 

TOUCHDOWN MARCUS. Back come the Marauders, as Kade McKnight goes in from 7 yards out for his second score of the evening. (Guyer, 24-21 | 2:33, 2nd) 

TOUCHDOWN GUYER. It’s Kaedyn Cobbs again as, after the Wildcats forced Marcus to punt, gets a handoff and takes it 66 yards to the house. Guyer up by double digits. (Guyer, 24-14 | 5:05, 2nd) 

TOUCHDOWN GUYER. Wildcats come right back down the field and regain the lead, as running back and Illinois commit Kaedyn Cobbs breaks a couple of tackles and goes in from 8 yards out. (Guyer, 17-14 | 6:54, 2nd) 

TOUCHDOWN MARCUS. Kade McKnight goes in from 3 yards out, which was set up one play after a long pass from Colton Nussmeier to Jameson Mayfield that went 67 yards. Marauders in the lead for the first time tonight. (Marcus, 14-10 | 11:18, 2nd) 

– Marcus faces a third-and-long as second-quarter action begins. 

FIRST QUARTER

FIELD GOAL GUYER. Wildcats regain the lead on the next drive, as Andrew Johnson boots one through from 27 yards out. (Guyer, 10-7 | 1:45, 1st) 

TOUCHDOWN MARCUS. Marauders recover a Guyer fumble deep in Wildcat territory and they cash it in as QB Colton Nussmeier connects with Berrington Kogler from 6 yards out, and the PAT ties this one up. (7-7 | 5:54, 1st) 

TOUCHDOWN GUYER. On the Wildcats’ second play from scrimmage, Zephyr Kreye throws a deep ball right in the bucket to Tristan Shelton for a 51-yard TD pass. PAT is good. (Guyer, 7-0 | 9:44, 1st) 

– Guyer forces a three-and-out on the opening series, forcing Marcus to punt, and the Wildcats get a solid return out to near midfield. 

– Marcus will start the game on offense, as the Marauders receive the opening kickoff.
