Cowboys Headlines: CeeDee Lamb ready to cook; Dak Prescott's elite play being wasted

At 2-3-1, it already feels like the Cowboys’ 2025 season is hanging in the balance as they prepare to welcome the division rival Commanders to town for a Week 7 clash. Luckily, the club will get one of their top playmakers back, as wide receiver CeeDee Lamb says his ankle is healed up and he’s ready to go. He says he’ll play despite being limited in practice Thursday; KaVontae Turpin and Tyler Booker were also limited. Linebacker Jack Sanborn was a full participant as he works his way back from a concussion.

Quarterback Dak Prescott will try to keep his hot streak going, though one new metric illustrates how not even the elite play he’s delivering has been enough to overcome his own defense. But history shows the defense doesn’t need to be the best in the league for the Cowboys to get somewhere; they just need to not be the worst. It just goes to show how much of a QB’s success isn’t even up to him. Need proof? Just ask Danny White, one of the NFL’s great character studies in being dealt an unlucky hand.

Looking ahead to Washington, they’re hurting. Terry McLaurin has taken a downward turn, Deebo Samuel did not practice for a second straight day, ex-Cowboy Dorance Armstrong may not be able to face his old team, and former Dallas receiver Noah Brown was just put on injured reserve. As for the battle of the former coordinators, Dan Quinn talks about matching wits once again- this time for real- with his old friend Brian Schottenheimer.

Meantime, the trade deadline is creeping closer, and there are excellent targets at every position on the field. Several players are speaking out about the quality of the playing surface at the Steelers’ home stadium, Lions coach Dan Campbell reveals that his trick play from the other night was called back by someone other than an official on the field, and the Titans already have a full field of names who could be in contention for their top job; one of those names will be very familiar to Cowboys fans.
