Congress Party Would Introduce New Laws in India: VH

Hyderabad: TPCC senior leader V. Hanumantha Rao on Tuesday said that the Congress would introduce new laws to plug the loopholes that allow the accused in criminal cases to escape, if the party-led I.N.D.I.A was voted to power at the Centre.

Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Hanumantha Rao said that the gangster Nayeemuddin had amassed illegal properties worth thousands of crore rupees. After his death in an encounter, the then BRS government failed to seize his illegal properties.

The accused in rape cases were also escaping imprisonment due to shortcomings in the law. “There should be a change in the laws brought during the British era. There should be a radical change in the laws which are being implemented in India. If Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister, he will change such laws,” Hanumantha Rao said.

“Judicial remand should be extended beyond 14 days. The Nalsar University Vice Chancellor has suggested three new laws for quick punishment for the guilty and speedy justice for the victims,” Hanumantha Rao said. “If girls are taken from the house of a poor family and killed tomorrow, no justice will be done those families (under the current laws),” he said.

It took 23 years for farmers to get justice in the Narmada Bachao case, Hanumantha Rao said. Megha Patkar fought hard on their behalf. If the culprits are punished quickly, there will be a fear of wrongdoing, the TPCC leader said.
