In some potentially good news for the Washington Commanders, it doesn’t sound like wide receiver Terry McLaurin will need surgery for his injured quad.
McLaurin, who suffered the injury in Sunday’s Week 3 win over the Raiders, reportedly visited numerous specialists this week, including the country’s top expert on core muscle injuries, specifically sports hernias, Dr. William Meyers. That led to speculation that McLaurin’s injury was more than just a groin strain.
Mike Garofolo of the NFL Network provided the following update on McLaurin:
“I’ve got a little bit of good news here on Terry McLaurin, who has a quad/hip/groin,” Garofolo said. “I mean, it’s sort of moving around here, and Ian Rapoport, our colleague, reported that he went to see Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia, the core muscle specialist. I know a lot of people say, ‘Once you go to Dr. Meyers, you’re getting surgery from Dr. Meyers.’ Well, my understanding is there will be no surgery, or at least, not right as of now. So, that is a little bit of good news on Terry McLaurin because any type of core muscle surgery, you’re taking anywhere from 6-8 weeks. So, that’s not in the cards as of right now. Now, that being said, he hasn’t practiced the last couple of days, so it doesn’t sound like he’s going to be playing (Week 4 vs. Falcons).”

Clearly, McLaurin and the Commanders are not out of the woods here. It sounds like both sides are hoping that rest will improve things. Of course, it’s good news that he doesn’t need surgery now. You can only hope that a couple of weeks of rest will help McLaurin return to the field.
Washington is on the road for the next two weeks, with games in Atlanta on Sunday and in Los Angeles against the Chargers in Week 5. The Commanders will probably sit McLaurin for the next two games and hope McLaurin can return in Week 6, when Washington returns home to face the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.
