Chelsea fans will love what Jamie Gittens said after his debut against Bayer Leverkusen

Jamie Gittens made his Chelsea debut against Bayer Leverkusen on Friday night and fans will love what he had to say after the game.

Gittens joined earlier this summer from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth an initial £48.5m, and is one of three attacking signings so far this window.

The 21-year-old came on as a second half substitute and looked impressive with his directness and one on one ability.

Jamie Gittens on competition at Chelsea

Gittens will be looking to make the left wing role his own for the upcoming season, and with more performances like that it’s a possibility.

The England under-21 international will likely be competing with Alejandro Garnacho if he arrives from Manchester United.

Gittens should see plenty of game time next season, but the competition for places in attack at Chelsea is fierce given the options Enzo Maresca has at his disposal.

After game Gittens was asked about the level of competition at the club, and his answer will no doubt delight Chelsea fans.

“In training it’s like a game every day,” he told journalist Kieran Gill.

“You can’t have an off day, it’ not good, so having this competition can really help the team in general to be a higher standard.”

Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho to join next?

There’s already plenty of competition at Chelsea, but the Blues are working on bringing another two attackers in before the end of the window.

Chelsea are currently in negotiations with RB Leipzig for Xavi Simons, with the Bundesliga outfit said to want a total package of £60m, although Chelsea are yet to make an official offer.

Chelsea now need to agree a deal with United, who are said to want £50m for the 21-year-old, but it’s been reported Chelsea don’t want to pay more than £30m.
