Celtic failed to make home advantage count in their Champions League qualifier with Kairat.

Brendan Rodgers demoted Arne Engels from his starting line-up for Wednesday’s first-leg encounter with Kazakhstan’s reigning champions at Celtic Park.

But the Bhoys’ best chance of the evening arrived in the second half when James Forrest saw an effort tipped onto the woodwork by Aleksandr Zarutskiy.

Despite an additional ten minutes’ added time, the hosts failed to produce a breakthrough ahead of their return leg at Almaty’s Central Stadium next week.
