Carving the snow: Vote for The Patriot Ledger Boys Skier of the Year

Most high school athletes dread the snow because it usually puts a crimp in their training plans for that day. But not if you are a member of the ski team.

A group of talented skiers made their run at the Slalom and Giant Slalom title at the MIAA’s Alpine Skiing State Championship on Feb. 23 at Berkshire East Mountain Resort in Charlemont. From that event six local athletes have emerged as worthy candidates for The Patriot Ledger’s Boys Skiing MVP.

Here are the choices. Pick your favorite.

Robert Blanchard Jr. Cohasset

A Giant Slalom state champion as a freshman, it was just the start of what’s been a successful run for Blanchard. This year he took second in the Giant Slalom (53.94) and fourth in the Slalom (44.78) at the state championship.

John Botsivales Sr. B.C. High

Botsivales won the Peter Wall Memorial Race at Ragged Mountain this winter for the Eagles. He was 39th in the Giant Slalom at the state finals.

John Doyle Soph. Hingham

Doyle showed promise of good things sure to come with a 40th place finish in the Giant Slalom. He was 46th in the Slalom.

Tyler Linnell Sr. Scituate

A member of the Sailors baseball team, Linnell closed out the winter season by placing amongst the top 100 finishers in the Slalom and Giant Slalom.

Jack Fisher Jr. Duxbury

The junior captain had a fine season for the Green Dragons, qualifying for competition in the Slalom, finishing 92nd.  Fisher is also an excellent golfer for DHS.

Simon Wong Soph. Milton

Wong finished 74th (52:53.74) in the Slalom event at the state championship.
