Best PC RPGs To Play In 2025

The RPG genre in video games is one of the most popular in the world in 2025, and if you have a PC, you have access to some of the best RPGs on the market. While consoles such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S can also play many of these RPGs, there’s something special about booting up your computer to role-play as a character in a video game. Of course, with so many RPGs coming out these days, it can be difficult to decide exactly which RPGs to play on PC.

Fortunately, we have compiled a list of the 18 best RPGs available on PC. A majority of these RPGs are more recent, as they’re the easiest to access on the current PC marketplaces. However, there are some older games on the list that still hold up in 2025.

Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 is considered one of the best RPGs of all time. The game allows you to pick from several premade classes, all with unique back stories and abilities, or create your own class. With your character, you can gather a party and go on an epic 100-plus-hour adventure across a gobsmackingly in-depth world. You’ll complete incredible quests, engage in deep dialogue, and fight enemies using a detailed and varied turn-based combat system. Every decision you make has some kind of impact on the world, and all of this culminates in one of several thousands of different endings.

Elden Ring

When you’re not fighting bosses or enemies, you can explore any extremely detailed and surprisingly large open world where you never know what’s around the next corner. In lieu of traditional quests, Elden Ring forces you to find your own way and truly get lost in the world so you can create a unique path to your next destination.

However, as you go deeper, you’ll uncover an unforgettable gameplay experience that offers a staggeringly deep and revolutionary dialogue system, excellent RPG mechanics, and completely free decision-making. Nothing is off the table in Disco Elysium, and you can utilize anything at your disposal to complete quests, explore the world, and interact with the game’s quirky, edgy, and hilarious cast of NPCs.

Cyberpunk 2077

The Witcher 3 offers one of the best video game worlds available, complete with dozens of interesting quests and locations to explore, along with a legendary story that has several different endings depending on your choices.

Oblivion Remastered

We’re a little conflicted with this spot, as it’s difficult not to put The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the list. A complete remaster of the original The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Bethesda absolutely knocked it out of the park with this release. Oblivion was already one of the best RPGs ever made, but the remastered version takes everything to new heights. Oblivion Remastered offers a massive map, quests that evolve as your journey goes on, and more loot than you’ll know what to do with. You can also engage with various factions to carve out what kind of character you want to be, or just stick to your own devices and use the skill tree to make any build you want.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

The original Kingdom Come: Deliverance was a marvel of an RPG in its own right, but the sequel improves upon just about everything from the first game. Kingdom Come 2 continues the story of Henry of Skalitz, picking up immediately where the original left off. However, you don’t have to play the first game to understand the events of the sequel. Kingdom Come 2 is meticulously designed all across the map of Bohemia. Characters react to how Henry is dressed or smells, quests can be completed in a variety of ways, and the world truly feels alive as you’re exploring it. One of the best parts about Kingdom Come 2, though, is the dialogue between Henry and the other characters. All of the dialogue is wonderfully written and will have you laughing and crying at the same time at random points during the game. Between the dialogue, the story, and the world, you’ll feel truly attached to Henry and his journey.

World of Warcraft

There’s only one MMORPG on this list, and it’s only right that the spot goes to World of Warcraft. The most popular MMORPG in the world for nearly two decades, WoW is still going strong in 2025. By now, there are several different versions of WoW you can play, ranging from Classic to Retail to a plethora of expansions and other realms. Regardless of which one you decide on, though, you’re getting a fantastic RPG experience that you’ll share with thousands of other players.

Undertale

Undertale is one of those RPGs that you have to digest properly after beating it. A game that was developed by a single person, Undertale is an unbelievable RPG from top to bottom. Your job is to find your way out, but killing enemies is not the sole goal or even the main way you’ll accomplish that task. Instead, you can utilize dialogue, wits, and stealth to navigate the challenges of the underground world. Undertale features a fantastic story, plenty of charisma, and special gameplay that will have you hooked from the opening minutes.

Metaphor: ReFantazio

Metaphor: ReFantazio is an action RPG that takes some inspiration from other games on this list, but still manages to be an experience that stands on its own. Set in a fantasy world that’s rife with political intrigue from the beginning, Metaphor: ReFantazio allows you to unlock and use special powers, assemble a party of different characters, and engage in action-packed, turn-based combat that takes tremendous amounts of strategy to win. You and your party travel across a map that’s divided into different zones, all of which feature various characters to encounter, quests to complete, and new environments to explore. However, you don’t want to spend too long doing any one action, as Metaphor: ReFantazio operates on a strict time management system that determines what actions you can perform and when. It’s a fantastic RPG with a slew of exciting moments and meaningful role-playing gameplay.

Wasteland 3

Wasteland 3 is a post-apocalyptic CRPG that also throws in elements of the survival genre. Set in a world ravaged by all-out nuclear war, you’re the leader of a party of Desert Rangers struggling to survive the destruction. With your squad, you have to establish a base, explore your surroundings for supplies, and find out who you can trust through a series of difficult decisions that affect the overall story and ending. Wasteland 3 also utilizes a brutal turn-based combat system that might have you reloading a save once or twice throughout your playthrough. It’s a challenging but rewarding RPG that will keep you on your toes in more ways than one, as the story and combat never stop evolving.

Fallout: New Vegas

The Fallout series is one of the most famous in the RPG genre, and Fallout: New Vegas is the series at its finest. From there, your story begins as you try to hunt down the man and find out why your package was so important. New Vegas’ map is a harsh recreation of the Mojave Desert, but there’s a small slice of paradise cut out on the Vegas Strip. You can enter casinos, gamble your caps away, and learn a few secrets about some of the world’s inhabitants as you navigate the factions and politics vying for control of the Wasteland. New Vegas is a thrill ride all the way through, and its map, characters, and story are legendary within the video game industry.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took the gaming community by storm in early 2025, releasing to universal acclaim from critics and players alike. Clair Obscur features a turn-based combat system that implements real-time mechanics to add another layer of depth and strategy to every fight in the game. Clair Obscur follows the story of Expedition 33, a band of adventurers who have one year to live, unless they can stop the cycle of death that ravages their city. Your character will team up with other party members as they travel across a beautifully designed version of Belle Époque France. The characters in Clair Obscur are extremely detailed, and the story pulls at your heartstrings every step of the way to culminate in a fantastically emotional ending.

Final Fantasy X Remastered

Final Fantasy is a series that features over a dozen RPGs, most of which could easily take up a spot on this list. However, we’re going with Final Fantasy X as our pick. More specifically, the Remastered version that also comes packaged with its sequel Final Fantasy X-2. Final Fantasy X follows the story of Tidus and a summoner named Yuna as they travel across the world of Spira to save it from a monster known as Sin. The turn-based game was one of the first in the Final Fantasy series to offer a fully explorable map, which has been rendered in full HD with the remastered version. Final Fantasy X is one of the best games in the famed franchise, with a deep, emotional story.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition

The Mass Effect franchise is one of the most beloved in RPG history. One of the pioneers of choice-based stories, Mass Effect comprises a trilogy of titles that are all included in the Legendary Edition. An epic space adventure that sees you travel to various planets full of stories to uncover, Mass Effect also features an excellent cast of well-realized characters. The choices you make in each game carry forward into the ones that come after, creating ramifications that ripple through the story.

Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds is the latest entry in the famed Monster Hunter series. Wilds changes up the classic formula in a number of ways, though, adding plenty of requested features to make the experience more seamless than ever. Features such as rideable mounts and timed resources on the map make Wilds much more user-friendly. Of course, the core is still massive beasts to kill and huge weapons to use to accomplish that goal. While the story of Wilds isn’t anything to write home about, you still get to role-play as your character and craft a specific build for them, utilizing your weapon of choice with its own unique skills. You’ll never stop trying to perfect your build, and there are always monsters to hunt, both during the campaign and in the endgame.

Pillars of Eternity

Developer: Obsidian EntertainmentRelease Date: March 26, 2015Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch

Pillars of Eternity is the first entry in Obsidian Entertainment’s CRPG franchise that most recently saw a new entry with Avowed. The makers of Fallout New Vegas, The Outer Worlds, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II are no strangers to RPGs, and Pillars of Eternity is some of the studio’s finest work. Similar to other CRPGs, such as Baldur’s Gate 3, PoE is all about assembling an optimal party of characters, utilizing every character’s strengths in combat and exploration, and making choices that affect the world around you. However, PoE features an intriguing story that will have you hooked until the end credits, a charming and dangerous fantasy world, and some truly difficult bosses that will test your turn-based combat abilities. If you’re a CRPG or RPG fan in general, then Pillars of Eternity needs to be one of the next games on your wishlist.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Developer: Ryu Ga Gotoku StudioRelease Date: January 16, 2020Platforms: PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a brutal, action-filled joyride through the streets of modern-day Japan. Playing as Ichiban Kasuga after he spends 18 years in prison, you go on an epic revenge story that sees you tracking down the person who betrayed you and your family. To help you with your journey, you can recruit a number of different characters who act as your party and aid you in combat. Like a Dragon uses a turn-based combat system that’s packed with different abilities, combos, and strategy. When you’re not participating in the story or combat, though, you have the entire map of Tokyo at your disposal. You can take part in a number of different activities and mini-games, or just cause general mayhem on the streets using new abilities you unlock as you level up.
