Bengals refreshingly show up on a top OL ranking list

The Cincinnati Bengals haven’t fared all that well in top positional rankings this offseason ahead of training camp.

Annual efforts from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that poll NFL personnel from around the league to form positional rankings largely keep the Bengals out of the spotlight.

Obvious outliers like quarterback and wideout are exceptions. But more often than not, a past mistake like Jessie Bates hurts them and a former first-round pick still haunts them more than a decade later.

The latest effort from Fowler ranks offensive tackles, where Orlando Brown Jr., at least, shows up in the “also receiving votes” section. That’s better than nothing for the Bengals with their big free-agent signing from just a few years ago, especially on a list including right and left tackles. The position has mostly been a mess since the Andrew Whitworth years and the team didn’t sniff lists like this.

Looking ahead, the Bengals have reason to hope they can slip two guys on this list one year from now, provided first-rounder Amarius Mims can capitalize on some of that promise he showed last year and stay on the field for an entire season.
