Bengals depth chart after final roster cuts takeaways

The Cincinnati Bengals formed the 53-man roster, practice squad and even lost a player on waivers, among other roster news items, before issuing a depth chart.

As always, depth charts are both unofficial and a little archaic, yet it remains interesting to see how the team or media around the team list players.

Here are a few quick notables from the unofficial depth chart from the team’s website after the Bengals formed the 53-man roster

Bengals list starting guards

We’ll have to wait and see whether they bother to list Dalton Risner as a starter after signing him in free agency. For now, rookie Dylan Fairchild gets the nod at left guard and Lucas Patrick is the starter on the right. That right side is very much up for grabs after the rocky summer for Patrick, though.

Bengals’ tight end shuffle

Again, it doesn’t mean all that much, but it’s funny to see Drew Sample listed over Mike Gesicki at tight end. Gesicki is, after all, effectively a wide receiver. Sample is the No. 1 blocker. Noah Fant follows behind Gesicki on the chart, while final-roster surprise Cam Grandy is behind Tanner Hudson.

Bengals first-rounders battle on edge

For now, at least, the Bengals depth chart lists former first-rounder Myles Murphy over current first-rounder Shemar Stewart. We’ll see if that holds, though. Joseph Ossai and Cam Sample should get some work in the rotation. Murphy is entering a critical year and isn’t guaranteed anything. And Stewart should see plenty of work kicked inside in certain formations, too.

Bengals move Dax Hill

For those out of the loop and/or just tuning back in, a gentle reminder that former first-rounder Dax Hill will start the season as the nickel. That’s after giving it a go as the Jessie Bates replacement at safety, then moving to outside corner last year before injury. Now, he’s inside, with Cam Taylor-Britt and DJ Turner starting on the boundaries.
