Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet will be on his third different head coach now that Ben Johnson is running the show coming into the 2025 season, and there’s plenty of reason for excitement and optimism.
Although the Bears brought in a young tight end in rookie Colston Loveland with the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, Kmet is still expected to have an impactful role in the offense. Now, all he has to do now is get familiar with the new scheme.
Considering all the resources that the team has put around second-year quarterback Caleb Williams, the passing game offense should look much different under Johnson. For Kmet, all the new wrinkles he’s seen early on has him excited for what could come in the 2025 season.
“How creative Ben is,” Kmet said. “You’ve seen that in Detroit and how detail-oriented he is within the offense. His knowledge in general is just great, so there’s a lot of things that even when we’ve come back from this summer break here – maybe some tweaks here and there on some routes that we’ve seen that they looked over in terms of how we ran him in the spring and kind of adjusting them to whether it’s to help us get open better or scheme open guys better. It’s just really cool to kind of see that progression and that growth within the offense.”
Just within the tight end group between Kmet and Loveland, Johnson will have plenty of ways to show his creativity with the two talented pass-catchers. No matter where you look on the roster, there is plenty of expectation that the Bears are building a high-powered offense with many layers to it, which is something that should come as a much-welcomed and needed change.
