Bagalkot: Excise Minister and Bagalkot district in-charge RB Timmapur has said that the district administration has effectively managed the flood situation caused by the Krishna, Ghataprabha, and Malaprabha rivers.
He was speaking to reporters in Bagalkot after inspecting the flood-affected villages of Alaguru and Kadakol in Jamkhandi taluk and also the Chikkapadasalgi bridge.
The minister said that the administration has minimized damages by controlling the release of water into the reservoirs.
“In Mudhol taluk, 13 relief centers have been set up, sheltering a total of 1,540 people. In Rabkavi-Banhatti, seven relief centers are accommodating 951 people, while one relief center in Bilagi taluk is sheltering eight people. Overall, 2,499 people are in 22 relief centers across the district,” he said.
Three lives were lost in this year’s floods, and compensation of Rs 5 lakh per victim, totaling Rs 15 lakh, has been distributed to the affected families.
Rains have damaged crops like sugarcane, Maize, Urad, and Green Gram, with 15,455 hectares of agricultural land and 417 hectares of horticultural land reported damaged.
From June 1 to July 31, a total of 414 houses in the district were damaged, of which 255 were partially damaged. Following the guidelines the government has disbursed Rs 16.14 lakh as compensation. The assessment of the 44 houses damaged in the recent floods is underway.
The floods have also damaged 451 electric poles, 90 transformers, and 9.18 kilometers of electrical wiring, according to a report from HESCOM. However, there are no reports of Anganwadi centers or schools being damaged. A survey and site inspection have been ordered to assess the damage to basic infrastructure, and a report will be submitted to the government after approval.
Minister Timmapur added that several bridges in Mudhol taluk were submerged during floods, causing significant disruptions to transportation.
Bagalkot MLA HY Meti, Badami MLA BB Chimmanakatti, Deputy Commissioner Janaki KM, and others accompanied the minister.
