Auburn set to battle Memphis in preseason exhibition

The Auburn Tigers played one of the toughest schedules in the country last season, which prepared them for a run at the Final Four. Bruce Pearl and the Tigers look to follow that model again by facing tough competition in Purdue, Oregon, Michigan, and Arizona, as well as the always brutal SEC slate.

To prepare for another grueling schedule, the Auburn Tigers have scheduled a preseason exhibition against one of the top programs at the mid-major level. Tuesday, Auburn athletics announced that Auburn will face Memphis on Thursday, Oct. 30, at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, with a scheduled tip time of 7:30 p.m. CT.

Auburn blew past Memphis in last year’s Maui Invitational championship game, 90-76, thanks to a dominating first-half performance, sharp second-half shooting, and a great night at the free-throw line. The Tigers jumped out to a 47-31 first-half lead and kept momentum going in the second half by connecting on 64% of their shots. Johni Broome scored 21 points and hauled in 16 rebounds in the win. Dylan Cardwell, Chad Baker-Mazara, and Denver Jones joined Broome by reaching double-digits in points in Auburn’s win over Memphis last year in Hawaii.

Auburn is 2-1 all-time against Memphis, with two of the three previous meetings occurring at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

The scheduled exhibition with Memphis is Auburn’s second preseason tilt. Auburn will battle Oklahoma State on Oct. 15 in Birmingham as part of the “Ballin’ in Boutwell” event at Boutwell Auditorium in the Magic City.
