Auburn safety Champ Anthony could miss Saturday's game at Vanderbilt

The hits keep coming for Auburn football as the Tigers could be without an important defensive back for Saturday’s road tilt at Vanderbilt.

Nathan King of Auburn Undercover reports that safety Champ Anthony was spotted at Tuesday’s practice using crutches as a result of an injury he suffered in Auburn’s Week 10 loss to Kentucky. The injury is to the same leg that Anthony injured in Auburn’s loss to Arkansas in 2024, an injury that ended his season. It is the second major injury that Anthony has sustained this season. Earlier this season, Anthony injured his thumb during Auburn’s season-opening win at Baylor, which kept him out for several weeks.

Anthony has logged 13 tackles in six games this season with one pass deflection. Anthony’s best game this season came in Auburn’s Week 9 loss to Missouri, when he made 4 tackles. According to Pro Football Focus data, Anthony allows a 50% catch rate (6-of-12), and has given up just one touchdown.

The first SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report for the week will be released on Wednesday night, offering a clearer view of the severity of Anthony’s injury. Wide receiver Horatio Fields, center Connor Lew, and defensive lineman Jourdin Crawford were ruled out of last Saturday’s game vs. Kentucky, and Anthony could join the mix for Saturday’s game at Vanderbilt.
