The Arizona Cardinals had a “bonus” practice to start Week 1 on Monday. They also used Monday to hold some tryouts.
They currently have an open practice squad spot, so one of these players could end up being signed by Wednesday, when the Cardinals return to practice after a day off on Tuesday.
The NFL transaction report showed the Cardinals hosted six players for tryouts, all defensive players.
Let’s have a look at who they were.
6 Cardinals tryouts on Monday
The Cardinals had four linebackers and a pair of defensive linemen in for tryouts. They were:
- DL Zach Carter
- DL Denzel Daxon
- LB Jared Bartlett
- LB Stone Blanton
- LB Devin Harper
- LB Cam Riley
Zach Carter
Carter has been in the NFL for the last three years. He was on the Las Vegas Raiders before getting cut and played against the Cardinals in the preseason finale, logging a tackle. The 6-4, 301-pound defensive lineman was drafted in the third round in 2022 by the Cincinnati Bengals. He played two and a half seasons before he was cut and the Raiders signed him to the practice squad and then to the active roster.
He has played in 45 NFL games with 16 starts and has 68 total tackles and two sacks in his career.
Denzel Daxon
Daxon is 6-2 and 304 pounds. He has not played an NFL game. He spent the offseason and preseason with the Dallas Cowboys. He spent last year on the practice squad as the Cowboys’ international exemption. He is from the Bahamas.
Jared Bartlett
Bartlett went undrafted out of Cincinnati this year. He is 6-2 and 238 pounds and signed originally with the New York Jets but was later cut and signed by the Green Bay Packers.
Stone Blanton
He is a 6-2, 237-pound linebacker who went undrafted out of Mississippi State this year. He signed with the San Francisco 49ers and was part of their final cuts.
Devin Harper
Harper is a 6-0, 234-pound linebacker who was drafted in ths sixth round in 2022 by the Cowboys. After two seasons with the Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals, appearing in 12 games and logging five tackles, he spent 2024 on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad. He spent the offseason and preseason with the Steelers before being waived with an injury and then getting an injury settlement.
Cam Riley
He is an undrafted rookie out of Florida State, signed originally by the New England Patriots. He did not make the final roster. He is 6-3 and 228 pounds.
