Analyst sees adding a veteran linebacker as Tennessee Titans final move of the offseason

Now that NFL teams are in the dead period before training camp, it is time to make those last minte additions to their rosters that could pay dividends during the regular season.

Like many NFL teams, the Tennessee Titans still have some questions that must be answered once the pads go on during training camp, but they could find a bargain at this stage of free agency that will help answer those questions. Fortunately, there are still a few players on the market that could help solidify the Titans’ roster.

One area of concern remains the inside linebacker position, where Tennessee could use a veteran to help bolster the young inside linebacker room. Luckily for them, there are still some available that could fit into the system and help ease the transition for Otis Reese, James Williams, or Cedric Gray into the lineup. Aaron Schatz of ESPN agrees with that assessment and views the Titans as an excellent fit for one of the inside linebackers.

Tennessee Titans

Sign linebacker Kyzir White

The Titans don’t really have a lot of inside linebackers on the roster that they can trust. Tennessee signed Cody Barton away from Denver, but nobody else at the position played more than 10.5% of defensive snaps last season.

A strong veteran to play up the middle would be a big help, and White is still out there. He’s a steady player who had 35 more tackles last season for Arizona than any other Cardinals defender other than Budda Baker.

Tennessee’s linebackers struggled in coverage during 2024 and White, who entered the league as a hybrid linebacker/safety, could fill a void that plagued the defense last season. Currently after offseason activities, Reese appears to have the inside track at starting next to Barton. But he will still face some competition from Williams and Gray during training camp, and veteran competition could have a positive impact on the defense in 2025.
