Moreover, the Hydrologist NPC in Heartman’s Lab rewards you with unique items, too.You can also press and hold the Square button to “put a bucket on your head.” This lets you teleport to another Hot Spring location that you’ve previously unlocked.Hot Springs are a type of fast travel method in the game. However, you won’t be able to bring any of your vehicles or cargo with you, except for those that are (a) equipped and (b) in your tool rack, boot clip, or pouches.All other items you have on you will be left behind in the private locker of the Hot Spring’s terminal that you just used.
Hot Spring location #1: Miracle Spring
Location: Motherhood – You’re going to visit the Motherhood facility as part of the campaign, so don’t worry about it. Once you’ve connected the facility to the Chiral Network, you should see a Death Stranding 2 Hot Spring right in front of the main building.Effect: N/A – Don’t forget to put the bucket on Sam’s head so you can teleport to the next area.
Hot Spring location #2: Heartman’s Spring
Location: Heartman’s Lab – The moment you put a bucket on Sam’s head in the first Hot Spring, you’ll be instantly teleported to Heartman’s Lab.Effect: Suppresses any sense of nausea and boosts stamina.Hydrologist item reward: N/A – The Hydrologist will unlock the Hot Spring Digger as a structure.
Note: You should fast travel back to the Hydrologist/Heartman’s Lab each time you discover a new Hot Spring location to receive rewards. The unique items she gives you grant a bonus buff when selected via a Hot Spring’s terminal.
How to use the Hot Spring Digger
The Hot Spring Digger is a buildable structure in the game. It’s what allows you to reveal Hot Spring in Death Stranding 2. Here’s the gist:
You can only create this device via a PCC level 2 item.Upon reaching a location, you need to bring out the Hot Spring Digger outline by pressing and holding the L2 button.The screen’s interface will tell you if the signal is null, weak, or strong.You’ll also hear a beeping noise if you’re facing in the right direction and if you’re close to the correct spot.Upon reaching the exact location, plop down the Hot Spring Digger to make the waters flow. This permanently unlocks that particular fixture on the map for the rest of your playthrough.
Hot Spring location #3: Chiral Spring
Location: The Dowser/Heartman’s Lab – Found at the top of the mountain range between Heartman’s Lab and the Dowser’s base. Note that a hologram of the Hydrologist will appear in this area with a request to build the Hot Spring Digger.Effect: Temporarily increases the total cargo weight that you can carry–i.e. cargo carrying capacity.Hydrologist item reward: Chiral Tea – Boosts your maximum stamina level.
Hot Spring location #4: Healing Spring
Location: Animal Shelter – Keep going north past the Animal Shelter until you’re at the cliffside area. There, you should find the perfect spot for this Death Stranding 2 Hot Spring.Effect: Heals injuries (i.e. health/blood level) and rapidly restores stamina.Hydrologist item reward: Apples – Promote faster rejuvenation of Sam’s blood level/health.
Hot Spring location #5: Metallic Spring
Location: Chronobiologist – From the Chronobiologist’s camp, go behind the building and head up the sloping path to the south. There, you’ll see a leveled section that’s jutting out.Effect: Place cargo containers in the pool of water to repair their damage.Hydrologist item reward: Yuzu – Increases your resistance to cold. This is great for venturing high up in the snow-covered mountains.
Hot Spring location #6: Digestive Spring
Location: Lone Commander – From the Lone Commander’s camp, keep heading northeast past the rugged area with rocky outcroppings. Eventually, you’ll reach a cliffside portion overlooking the large Tar Lake.Effect: Improves the effects of anything that you eat or drink.Hydrologist item reward: Tangerines – Boosts the effects when you drink from your canteen or eat cryptobiotes.
Hot Spring location #7: Clairvoyant Spring
Location: Eastern Environmental Observatory – Follow the ridge line south-southeast of the Eastern Environmental Observatory. Make sure you’re driving a Tri-Cruiser as well as the Pickup Off-Loader might not be able to make the steep climb.Effect: Improves your capabilities when trying to scan and find items in the vicinity.Hydrologist item reward: Ludens Ducks – Cute rubber ducks that Lou is fond of.
