Alex Smith reacts to his first-time eligible nomination for the Pro Football Hall of Fame

This week, Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke to former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith on behalf of his partnership with Crown Royal, the Official Whisky of the NFL. Smith, alongside several notable names, was announced as a first-time eligible player for next year’s Hall of Fame.

The former top overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft earned three Pro Bowl appearances in Kansas City and ended his career in 2020 triumphantly after overcoming a life-threatening injury. Smith was honored by the acknowledgment, but preferred to praise a former teammate in the same draft class.

“I paid no attention to that. That seems crazy. Ed, more importantly, I was really excited to be honest for one of my favorite teammates of all time that I got drafted with, that’s eligible as well, and he will, no doubt, be a first ballot Hall of Famer.” said Smith, “And that is Frank Gore, just an amazing teammate, amazing person, an unbelievable competitor. To see the career he had as a running back, going on to play 16 years and rank third on the all-time rushing list, the guy is just a stud of studs. So to see him be eligible and go in will be very cool.”

Smith was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year in his final season with Washington.

Award-winning whisky brand Crown Royal is proudly returning for its fifth year as the Official Whisky Sponsor of the NFL, once again hitting the road and driving generosity nationwide with the iconic Crown Royal Rig.
