Jak and Daxter fans are eating good as all three of the Naughty Dog PS2 classics now have native PC ports.
As spotted by Time Extension the team behind OpenGoal released a beta of its PC port of Jak 3, which following previous efforts now means that all three games in the trilogy are now “feature complete and fully completable” on PC. The original game in the trilogy Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is the only PC version not considered in beta as both Jak 2 and 3 feature some audio bugs and graphical issues, but for those who can look by some issues, you can now play the entire Naughty Dog series on PC with widescreen, 4K 60 FPS, and modding support – provided you own original copies of the games to dump the files off of to install the ports in the first place.
The 2020s may have had some all-time great games release, but its safe to say it’s been a horrible decade for the industry in pretty much every other metric given the amount of layoffs, studio closures, game cancellations, and the rise of AI slop. But if the 2020s has given us something amazing it’s got to be the decompilation and recompilation efforts that have made amazing strides for game preservation by giving once console-only titles native PC ports that not only give them a new lease on life, but allow players to tinker with them to make brilliant changes that can amount to remaster status.
And while these efforts have naturally mostly focused on Nintendo titles like Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Star Fox 64, but as it becomes more popular, efforts are branching out, with the Sonic Unleashed Recompiled release in 2025 being one of the most impressive fan efforts ever. And now PlayStation fans get in on the action as one of the most iconic trilogies ever is now fully available on PC.
