The first trailer for the Street Fighter movie has arrived and yeah, that’s Noah Centineo as Ken Masters singing “What’s Up?” by 4 Non Blondes at a karaoke bar.
In the brief clip, which can be viewed above, Ken is a washed-up fighter who seems rather depressed and at a loss. With some (rather violent) encouragement from Chun-Li (Camille Liang), Ryu (Andrew Koji) convinces Ken to enter the World Warrior Tournament – a competition between the strongest fighters from all over the world.
The trailer is also jam-packed full of game references. At the end of the clip, Ryu does his signature fireball move (which is pretty cool), not to mention the announcer bits are more or less sound effects from the games.
Per the official logline, behind this tournament “lies a conspiracy forcing them to take on both each other and the demons of their past.” Did I mention it takes place in 1993?
The cast includes Cody Rhodes as Guile, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson as Balrog, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Orville Peck as Vega, Andrew Schulz as Dan, and Mel Jarnson as Cammy.
Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip) took over directing duties after Talk to Me and Bring Her Back directors Danny and Michael Philippou stepped down from the project in 2024. The screenplay was penned by T. J. Fixman and Sakurai, with a story by Captain America: Brave New World writers Gary Dauberman and Dalan Musson.
