We’ve heard precious little about DC’s Jimmy Olsen spin-off, but a co-showrunner on the upcoming series has broken cover to tease a little about what to expect from Superman’s Pal.
Speaking to The Direct, Dan Perrault pointed to his work with fellow showrunner Tony Yacenda on acclaimed Netflix mockumentary American Vandal – among other projects – as a key reason why he’s a promising fit for the show, led by Skyler Gisondo.
“We’ve worked in this crime mystery comedy for a very long time… There’s definitely tools from that toolkit that we can apply here that I don’t think has been seen in the superhero genre thus far,” Perrault said.
Little else is known about Jimmy Olsen’s next steps in the DCU, not even the name of the Daily Planet reporter’s standalone series.
Perrault remarked, “We were tossing around some names last week. We really like, honestly, multiple of them, but all I can say is that it’s not called ‘Untitled Jimmy Olsen show.'”
Previously, there had been whispers of a show called ‘DC Crime’ (supposedly featuring ‘reluctant rizz god’ Olsen) doing the rounds. That was quickly and definitively debunked by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, who said, “There has never been a project called ‘DC Crime’ in development… I don’t know where that [rumor] came from but it’s weird.”
Elsewhere in Metropolis, Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow is set to begin filming shortly. David Corenswet’s Superman, Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane will be joined by Brainiac actor Lars Eidinger and John Stewart actor Aaron Pierre.
A Supergirl movie is also on the way, with the June 31 release being prefaced by tonnes of Puppy Krypto marketing – not that we’re complaining.
