Former Wisconsin star, NFL Pro Bowler to serve as honorary captain vs. Miami (Ohio)

Former Wisconsin football star linebacker Joe Schobert will serve as the Badgers’ honorary captain against Miami (Ohio) this evening.

Schobert, who played at Wisconsin from 2012-15, makes his return to Camp Randall following seven NFL campaigns with the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans. Schobert is the latest high-profile honorary captain to visit Camp Randall over the past few years, joining Montee Ball, James White and Aaron Gibson.

While with the Badgers, Schobert tallied 172 total tackles, 35.5 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks and forced seven fumbles across 45 appearances. As a senior in 2015, the Waukesha, Wisconsin, native earned a spot on ESPN’s All-American team for his stellar 79-tackle, 9.5-sack campaign.

After being drafted with the No. 99 overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, Schobert made his presence felt immediately with a Pro Bowl appearence in his second season as a professional. He accumulated a league-best 144 total tackles that season, in addition to a career-high 3.0 sacks and an interception.

In total, Schobert retired with 677 tackles (418 solo), 30 pass deflections, 23 tackles for loss, 11.0 sacks and 10 interceptions across 99 games in the NFL. He hung his clears up in 2022 following six games with the Titans.

The Wisconsin product is now slated to return to Barry Alvarez Field to participate in pregame rituals prior to today’s 8:00 p.m. CT kickoff.
