Injuries are part of NFL training camps.
Two injuries occurred Saturday in the Commanders‘ workouts in Ashburn. Left guard Brandon Coleman was visibly limping. There was no word on the severity of the injury from the Commanders. Checking Coleman’s X page (Twitter), he understandably did not post any message regarding the injury. On the other hand, he had not yet posted anything about training camp at all, so his not posting about his injury should come as no surprise.
Coleman was drafted by the Commanders in 2024 (67th overall) and started 12 games at left tackle for Washington. Last season, during training camp, Coleman was injured and then battled an upper-body injury that set him behind in reps leading up to the first game. These things are to be expected every training camp. The season-ending injuries, of course, are the ones that really hamper a team. But fans should simply expect there will be injuries every year, which can be nagging injuries, but there is no reason to go into clinical depression. It is football, NFL football.
There was much bigger news regarding Coleman. The young man released some engagement photos two weeks ago. Commanders fans will likely be less interested in this news for Coleman. But of course, it is much bigger news that Coleman is set to be married in April 2026 than how significant his foot/ankle injury might have been on Saturday. Football fans don’t usually think that way, but he and his bride know better about what is most important.
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel, on the other hand, made it known Saturday that he wants Terry McLaurin out there soon on the practice field for the Commanders. Samuel was expressing his support for McLaurin and his desire to play with him this season at full capacity.
Saturday, Samuel was reported to have injured his left hand. However, he was seen after practice participating in an interview. Thus, one can conclude if he had broken his hand, wouldn’t he be so concerned, he would have refused interviews and headed directly to a team doctor? Consequently, the injury seems to have been a nagging issue rather than a serious one for Samuel.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo revealed that Samuel had jammed a finger, and Samuel wasn’t too pleased that Garafolo revealed such. Garafolo then asked the cameraman to edit out or strike out what he had just said and offered a fist-pump to Samuel. Samuel was shaking his head negatively as Garafolo let the cat out of the bag. Samuel reluctantly provided the outside of his right hand to Garafolo.

We’ll continue to monitor Washington’s injury situation. The Commanders head up to New England this week for a joint practice on Wednesday before playing the Patriots in Friday’s preseason opener.
