Chicago Sky Get Timely Boost After Angel Reese Injury Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
After dropping a 22-point, 13-rebound double-double in the Chicago Sky’s last game—a 103-86 blowout loss to the Washington Mystics on Tuesday—Angel Reese is back on the sidelines again for Friday’s matchup against the Golden State Valkyries.
The two-time All-Star was ruled out for Friday’s game due to a back injury, which is the same issue that forced her to sit out two consecutive games prior to the Mystics matchup. It remains to be seen at this point if Reese will be able to suit up on Sunday against the Phoenix Mercury.
Chicago Sky Get Sevgi Uzun Boost
The good news for Sky fans is that despite the team’s decision to rule Reese out for the Valkyries game, they will get a bit of a boost on the Sevgi Uzun front.
According to Sky beat reporter Karli Bell, head coach Tyler Marsh confirmed before the game that Uzun, who signed with Chicago on Monday, will be making her debut against Golden State. Marsh also said that fans “can expect to see a lot of minutes from her tonight.”
Who is Sevgi Uzun?
Uzun is a 5-foot-10 guard who is currently in her second year in the WNBA. After spending last season with the Dallas Wings, the Turkish national was included in a complex multi-team trade deal in the offseason that saw her land with the Mercury.
Uzun played seven games for Phoenix this season, averaging 1.6 points and 2.0 assists in 14.6 minutes off the bench. The Mercury waived her contract on June 2.
Uzun isn’t expected to be a major contributor for the Sky, but the 27-year-old’s arrival comes at a timely juncture for the shorthanded Sky. Apart from Reese, both Hailey Van Lith (ankle) and Ariel Atkins (leg) remain out for the Valkyries game. Courtney Vandersloot is also still on the mend following a season-ending ACL injury.
