Notre Dame Offensive Linemen Named To The Outland Trophy Watch List

Notre Dame Offensive Linemen Named To The Outland Trophy Watch List originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Notre Dame is expected to have one of the nation’s best offensive lines in 2025, and veteran right tackle Aamil Wagner and senior left guard Billy Schrauth are expected to be central figures in that line. Both come into the season with high personal expectations, and Wagner has garnered preseason All-American honors. The duo has now been named to the Outland Trophy Watch list.

The Outland Trophy goes to the nation’s best interior lineman. All offensive lineman and defensive tackles qualify for this trophy. Wagner and Schrauth are viewed as Notre Dame’s top contenders for the honor in 2025.

Wagner was a first-year starter for Notre Dame last season and he was the only offensive lineman to start all 16 games. As the season wore on Wagner developed into arguably the most consistent blocker on the offensive line. Heading into his second season, Wagner is expected to take his game to another level. If he can become more dominant at the point of attack Wagner will have a chance to develop into one of the best right blockers in the country.

Schrauth began last season as the starting right guard but he went down with a leg injury in game three. He didn’t return until the October 26th matchup against Navy, and when he did come back Schrauth moved into the left guard spot. Schrauth now has 15 career starts, and Notre Dame has shown to be a much better running team when he’s in the game. He has been a strong pass blocker during his career and Notre Dame has averaged 212.3 rushing yards and 5.8 yards per carry in his 15 career starts.

Seven Notre Dame opponents were also named to the Outland Trophy Watch List. Miami offensive linemen Francis Mauigoa and Anez Cooper were named to the list as well, as were Texas A&M offensive lineman Trey Zuhn III and Ar’maj Reed-Adams. Boise State offensive tackle Kage Casey and Arkansas guard Fernando Carmona were named to the list, as was Navy defensive tackle Landon Robinson.
