All townsfolk locations in Tales of the Shire

Visit every townsfolk location in Tales of the Shire, and you’ll end up with no less than 15 new friends. The residents of Bywater love chatting, trading, exchanging gifts, and — more than anything else — shared meals. Trouble is… where to find these lovely neighbors?

Some Hobbits can hardly be missed (looking at you, Orlo), but others aren’t quite as present in the hustle and bustle of Bywater. Be sure to check the Townsfolk tab in the main menu: are you missing any characters? If so, here’s how to find every friend location in Tales of the Shire.

How to find new Hobbits

To find every friend in Tales of the Shire, mind their daily schedule. Most residents of Bywater work during the day and head to a pub in the evening. As a general rule, many Hobbits are found on the Village Square and at the Green Dragon during the day and evening, respectively.

If you’re wondering which Townsfolk you’re missing, there’s a good chance it’s either Nefi or Marigold Potts, as both are relatively remote and don’t pop up in the early questlines. Nonetheless, to make sure you’re chasing the right character, compare the list below to the list of Townsfolk in your game.

In case you’re wondering, the Hobbits who appear without any interaction options aren’t Townsfolk characters – they’re merely decorative. Once you’ve found a main resident of Bywater, just speak to them and they will be added to the Townsfolk menu. Conveniently, their location will be tracked on your map from this point onwards (there’s no such thing as privacy in The Shire).

The first batch of Hobbits (plus Dwarf) are found on or very near the Village Square during the day, as most of them are shopkeepers. The Village Square is directly north of your home. The map below shows their daytime locations, but we’ve also included their evening hangout spots in the text below.

Farmer Cotton: During the day, Farmer Cotton is keeping shop in the Village Square. In the evening, he’ll be at the Green Dragon.

Young Tom Cotton: Like his father, Tom Cotton is keeping shop in the Village Square during the day (opposite stall). Also like his father, Tom will head to the Green Dragon for a drink in the evening.

Hobson Hornblower: Hobson keeps shop in the Village Square throughout the day. In the evening, Hobson goes for a drink in The Ivy Bush Inn (east of the Village Square).

Nora Burrows: Nora is working at the Burrows’ Shop during the day. You’ll find the entrance on the north side of the Village Square. In the evening, she’ll have a drink at the Green Dragon.

Fosco Burrows: Fosco is working at the Burrows’ Shop during the day. In the evening, he’ll join his wife at the Green Dragon.

Nefi: During the day, Nefi is working her forge north of the Village Square. Starting from the square, take the path to the northeast and turn left at the first opportunity to find it. In the evening, Nefi will get a drink at The Ivy Bush Inn.

The second group of Bywater Hobbits usually dwells a bit further from the Village Square, but still close to the town center. The map below shows their common daytime locations, but be sure to check the text below for more info on their schedule, including their evening locations.

Old Noakes: Head east from the Village Square, cross the Stone Bridge, and you’ll find Old Noakes’ Smial to the north. During daytime, he’s usually fishing on the pier. In the evening, Old Noakes goes for a drink in The Ivy Bush Inn.

Marigold Potts: Marigold will be at The Ivy Bush Inn (east of the Village Square) during the day and continue to work throughout the evening.

Sandyman: Sandyman is tending the mill – all day, all evening, possibly all night. The mill is located northwest of The Green Dragon.

Lily Cotton: In the early morning, Lily will briefly head back to the Cotton Farm. As the proprietor of The Green Dragon, however, this is where she spends the remainder of her day. The Green Dragon is located west of the Village Square.

Orlo Proudfoot: As the Bywater postman, Orlo will be making his round during the day. Although he’s not as confined to specific locations as his fellow Hobbits, you will typically find him resting in the Village Square during the afternoon or at the Bywater Sign during the evening. He’s also a frequent evening guest at The Green Dragon.

Only four Bywater Hobbits prefer the eastern and southern areas of the Tales of the Shire map. If you’re more of a village-Hobbit yourself, you may have missed them. The map below shows their daytime and evening locations, which, as explained below, are almost the same.

Rosie Cotton: Rosie is usually found working at the Cotton Farm, south of your home. She’ll be there all day, evening included.

Willow Took: During the day, Willow is tinkering in her workshop (same location as her home), just southeast of your own Hobbit hole. In the evening, Willow is still at home with Daisy, reading books in the garden.

Daisy Took: Daisy is home all day (Willow’s Workshop). She’ll either be playing or reading books in the garden.

Delphinium Brandybuck: Delphi is always close to her home, either in her garden or foraging just outside. In the evening, Delphi will tend to her garden before retreating inside.
