Patriots rookie explains fast chemistry building with QB Drake Maye

New England Patriots rookie wide receiver Kyle Williams revealed why he and quarterback Drake Maye have built such good chemistry so quickly.

He credited it to the work the two have put in together throughout the offseason.

“Just getting that constant work in,” Williams told reporters, via WEEI’s Tom Carroll. “Understanding each other. Him being able to trust me when those types of routes are being called. And when it comes to pads, just try to carry it all over…everything ramps up. We try to have that same energy from day 1 all the way to the end of training camp.”

Williams, a third-round draft pick out of Washington State, could play a major role on offense for the Patriots this season. He is viewed as one of the top receivers in training camp so far, along with Stefon Diggs, Kayshon Boutte and Demario “Pop” Douglas.

Getting on the same page with Maye is going to be key for Williams to increase his snap count. More importantly, it could be key in the team turning things around as a whole offensively after a disappointing season last year.

For years, the Patriots have struggled to draft quality receivers. Williams might finally be the player who helps them buck that trend.
