Sassuolo reach agreement to sign Marseille’s Ismaël Koné
Not retained by Stade Rennais, Ismaël Koné (23) returned to Olympique de Marseille this summer. However, he does not have a future with Les Phocéens and has been training away from the first team.
Marseille have been looking to offload the Canada international since the start of the window, and an agreement has now been reached with Serie A side Sassuolo, as per a report from Foot Mercato.
The deal that will see the former Watford midfielder make the move to Italy will be a loan deal with an option to make the deal permanent, worth €12.5m. This option will become an obligation in the event that Sassuolo avoid relegation to Serie B this season. OM have also included a buy-on clause into the deal.
RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins understands that Koné will travel to undergo his medical on Saturday. His short stint at Marseille, therefore, looks to be coming to an end.
