Despite season 2 of Wednesday not yet airing on our screens, Netflix is confident enough in the series to have already given it the green light for a third season.
Revealed via X, there have been no real hints on what we can expect from the third season (after all, the second is out in only a few days), but for any Wednesday-head (Wed-head, is that a thing?) out there, this news will be a welcome surprise all the same.
The series follows the titular character, Wednesday Addams, who, after getting expelled from her previous school, is sent to Neveremore Academy — a school known for magic and for being a shelter for outcasts. During her time there, Wednesday discovers that she has inherited psychic powers, which allow her to solve a local murder mystery. With season 2, Wednesday has a brand new problem: preventing the death of her friend and schoolmate, Enid Sinclair.
A Netflix show about Wednesday Addams, arguably everyone’s favorite Addams, was always going to have some level of hype surrounding it. Yet it did more than that: it smashed all expectations. Wednesday season 1 broke records, debuting with 341 million hours viewed in its first week, making it the most-watched English-language TV series on Netflix.
But it isn’t just season 3 that viewers should be excited about. It was revealed via an interview between Jenna Ortega, Tim Burton, and The Hollywood Reporter that a spin-off for the beloved series is in the works too. Or at least “early discussions.”
Who that spin-off could follow is anyone’s guess, considering how well-loved all the other family members of the Addams Family are, but Morticia, Wednesday’s mother, would be a good guess. Alternatively, the spin-off could focus entirely on new characters introduced in the Neveremore setting from Wednesday. Only time will tell.
With such prestige behind it, expectations for Wednesday season 2 are at an all-time high. Unfortunately, we have been unable to obtain screeners for the second season, but fear not: our Wednesday impressions won’t be far behind when the first part of the second season drops in August and its second part in September.
Wednesday season 2, Part 1, will be available to watch on Netflix starting Aug. 6. Part 2 will premiere on Sept. 3.
