Lionel Messi's midfield ally joins Boca Juniors

Leandro Paredes, Lionel Messi’s long-time midfield partner while representing Argentina as well as a former teammate at PSG has now officially rejoined his boyhood club Boca Juniors.

The Argentine star completed a permanent move from AS Roma, which brings an end to his second spell in the Italian capital.

Roma confirmed the news late Wednesday in a statement that read:

AS Roma announces that Leandro Paredes has joined Boca Juniors on a permanent transfer.

The Argentinian midfielder played at Roma for a total of four seasons, collecting 135 appearances and 13 goals. Good luck, Leandro!”

The 31-year-old started his footballing journey with Boca Juniors back in 2010 before heading to Europe where he made a name for himself with Roma, Zenit, PSG, and Juventus.

His most memorable stint came at PSG, joining the club in 2019 and later reuniting with Lionel Messi for the 2021–22 season after Messi’s move from Barcelona.

Their partnership continued beyond club football, as they stayed side by side for Argentina through the 2024 Copa America and into the current international cycle.

The pair have shared the field more than 70 times for the club and country, which includes marquee tournaments like Ligue 1, Champions League, World Cup qualifiers, World Cup and the Copa America .
