Mike Dunleavy Jr. reveals it's unlikely Warriors trade into first round of NBA Draft

With the Oklahoma City Thunder officially crowned champions of the association, the NBA has officially turned the page to the upcoming NBA draft.

While the Golden State Warriors won’t have a pick in the opening round of the draft on Wednesday, Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Steve Kerr are set to be on the clock on Thursday in the second round. Although there’s always a chance the Warriors could make a move to jump back into the first round, it could be unlikely, according to Dunleavy Jr.

Before the 2025 edition of the draft gets underway, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. spoke to members of the media in the Bay Area on Monday. When speaking about the idea of a potential trade into the first round, Dunleavy Jr. said he “wouldn’t put it highly likely.”

We’ll look at stuff. I think most likely when you’re in the second round, it’s probably looking up or back within that round. Is there a possibility we could move into the first round? Sure. I wouldn’t put it at highly likely. You never know. On draft night, you get calls. You explore things. We’ll continue to do that.

The first round of the draft is headlined by Duke’s Cooper Flagg, Rutgers’ Dylan Harper, Baylor’s VJ Edgecombe and Texas’s Tre Johnson.

Although the Warriors don’t have a pick on Wednesday, Dunleavy Jr. and the Warriors have been busy doing homework on the upcoming draft class. The Warriors have worked out a flurry of prospects at Chase Center in San Francisco. The last trio of prospects to make their way to Chase Center was headlined by NCAA Scoring Champ Eric Dixon.

The NBA draft is set to begin on Wednesday, June 25 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
