LeBron James may have given a hint about his plans for next season

No one, other than possibly the man himself, knows whether LeBron James will opt out of the final year of his current contract to become a free agent this summer or play on his option year. He has until June 29 to make that decision, and it could have ramifications as far as what the Los Angeles Lakers do in free agency in a few weeks.

Some have even speculated that he could perhaps simply decide to call it quits this offseason. But it looks like that will not happen.

James did an interview with the Associated Press about starring in a new commercial for Amazon Prime Day, which takes place from July 8-11. He said, after reportedly spraining his MCL in the Lakers’ final playoff game several weeks ago, that his injured knee is feeling good and that he has plenty of time to prepare for the start of what would be his 23rd NBA season.

Via Associated Press:

“I have a lot of time to take care of my injury, my knee, the rest of my body and make sure I’m as close to 100% as possible when training camp begins in late September,” James told The Associated Press.

James posted a brief version of that Amazon commercial on his X (formerly Twitter) account, along with a caption that read, “I’ve been asking myself the same question…” Some wondered if he was hinting that he’s about to call it quits.

After the Lakers’ early postseason exit, James has been co-hosting his “Mind the Game” podcast along with Hall of Famer Steve Nash. He’s undoubtedly hoping the Lakers upgrade the rest of their roster, particularly at the center position, so that he will have a real shot at winning his fifth NBA championship next season.
