Spaceship bullet-hell shoot-’em-up Truxton soars onto modern platforms with Truxton Extreme and you can play it during Steam Next Fest

Truxton Extreme revives the classic shoot-’em-up for PC and PS5, and you can try the demo during Steam Next Fest, as announced at the Future Games Show Summer Showcase.

This new take on the series notably expands on the original games with three modes – Story, Arcade, and Heart Stopper – but it still features the same vertically scrolling bullet-hell gameplay as the original arcade games. You’ll be able to check out the Steam Next Fest demo from June 9 to 16.

In Truxton Extreme, you get to pilot the agile Super Fighter spaceship, battling alien spacecraft of all shapes and sizes, including huge bosses that pose a serious threat to humanity. You’ll get to use powerful weaponry, such as the Thunder Laser, Homing Shot, and Truxton Beam to annihilate these foes and rack up massive scores, while also trying to evade their own barrages to carry on fighting.

In case it’s a bit before your time like me, Truxton first released as an arcade game in Japan in 1988, created by Masahiro Yuge and other developers at Taoplan. Truxton II then came out in 1992, but the series was dormant until this revival effort thanks to Yuge and his team of developers at his own company, Tatsujin.

At the time of writing, Truxton Extreme hasn’t got a precise release date for its PC or PS5 launch but is targeting some time in 2025. Make sure you add it to your Steam wishlist in the meantime and to prepare for the Steam Next Fest demo.
